I. Parts of Speech

What is a Part of Speech?
A part of speech is one of the nine type of English words: Noun, Verb, Adjective, Adverb, Pronoun, Preposition, Determiner, Conjunction, Interjection. We can categorize English word into 8 basic types called "part of speech" or "word classes". It quite important to recognize part of speech. This helps you to analyze sentences and understand them, It also helps you to construct good sentences.

There are 8 type of part of speech:

1. Noun

2. Verb
3. Adjective

4. Adverb

5. Pronoun

6. Preposition

7. Conjunction

8. Interjection

1. Noun 

Definition: Noun is a word that identify a person, place, animal or thing, or names of one of them. 
Example:
Person: man, woman, boy, girl...
Animal: cat, dog, bird, fish, horse...
Thing: table, pen, book, bag....
Place: school, hospital, pagoda....

Type of noun: There are 4 type of noun:

1. Common noun

2. Abstract noun

3. Collective noun

4. Proper noun

1.1. Common noun
Definition: A common noun is a name given in common to every person or thing of the same class or kind.
Person: teacher, doctor, boy, girl....
animal: cow, tiger, pig, lion.....
thing: computer, bike,hat....
place: market, office, pagoda...
Example: 
- Every girl is always shy.
- The book are on the desk.
- Monk have the right to vote.
- Have you seen my car.

1.2. Proper noun
Definition: Proper noun is the name of some particular person, animal, thing, place, or we can say that proper noun is the name of common noun.
Example:
- Battambang is my hometown.
- Phnom Penh is the name of Cambodia city.
- My name is Jonh.
- I was born in September.

Note:

Common noun (name which belong to all): boy, girl, man, temple.

Proper noun (special name): John, Mary, Mr.Rom, Ankor Wat.
